About one hour and a half away from Fukuoka city, Dazaifu city is famous for it's many temples and shrines.
pictures: from the Tenman-gu Shrine and the Kyushu National Museum...
word on the shrine's streets says that people from all over japan come to this famous shrine to pray for good luck and success: from businessmen to students...and apparently it's a popular place for new years...
They have different praying periods : at the time of the picture, it was a special student prayer period...many students from all over japan come to Dazaifu to pray before a big exam (ex: university entrance exam)
of course, one must clean his hands before crossing the gates...
おみくじ (omikuji) = sacred lottery
...basically you drop a coin in a box to get a random fortune on paper...usually after that you tie it up on a tree near the temple if it's not too good...
group hug...no these are not huge goldfish but koi fish...
